You Here is our honest Ray-Ban Meta Review
At Solent Spectacles, we live for the "art of dispensing." Usually, that means finding the perfect bridge fit or the right lens coating. But lately, our Totton studio has been buzzing with one question: "Are the Ray-Ban Meta smart glasses actually any good?"
As specialists who see hundreds of frames a week, we decided to put the latest generation to the test.
The Style: Can You Even Tell?
The biggest win for Meta is the design. In the past, "smart" glasses looked like something out of a low-budget sci-fi movie. These, however, are built on iconic Ray-Ban chassis - the Wayfarer
From a distance, they look like classic high-quality frames. It’s only when you notice the slightly thicker temples (where the tech lives) and the camera lens in the corner that the secret is out.
Our Take: If you love the Ray-Ban aesthetic, you’ll love these. They don’t sacrifice fashion for function.
The Tech: More Than a Gimmick?
The 12MP camera is surprisingly sharp. For hands-free POV photos or quick videos while you're walking the dog or cycling through the New Forest, it’s unbeatable.
But the real star is the AI and Audio. The open-ear speakers are crisp—perfect for podcasts or calls without blocking out the world around you. With the 2026 updates, the "Hey Meta" assistant is smarter than ever, handling translations and even identifying landmarks you’re looking at in real-time.

The Reality Check: The "Daily Driver" Challenge
As dispensing experts, we have to be honest about the trade-offs:
The Weight: They are heavier than your average pair of specs. While they’re comfortable for a few hours, those used to featherlight titanium frames might feel the "heft" by the end of the day.
Battery Life: If you’re filming a lot, you’ll be reaching for the charging case by lunchtime. The Gen 2 Meta's will last up to 8 hours, but the case easily adds another 30 hours.
The Fit: Because the frames house delicate tech, they aren't as "adjustable" as traditional frames. Getting the fit right from the start is crucial.
Breaking the Language Barrier: Live Translation
One of the most impressive updates we’ve seen is the Live Translation feature. If you’re traveling, the glasses can now act as your personal interpreter. As someone speaks to you in Spanish, French, Italian, or even the newly added languages like Hindi, the glasses can translate their speech and play it back to you through the discreet open-ear speakers in real-time. It’s a game-changer for holidays or international business. You can also ask Meta to translate signs into English.
Upcoming: Conversation Focus Mode
We are particularly excited about the Conversation Focus mode, which is slated for a wider UK rollout soon. This is a brilliant piece of accessibility tech; it uses the multi-mic array to "lock onto" the person talking directly in front of you, amplifying their voice while digitally suppressing the background noise of a busy café or a windy street in Southampton. For anyone who struggles to hear in a crowd, these specs are gaining "perceptual superpowers."
A Memory for the Small Things (Like Parking!)
Ever parked in a multi-storey car park and promised you'd remember the level and section you were parked in? I asked Meta to remember, and it didn't let me down (like my memory did). You can ask it to remember important snippets throughout the day, like someone's birthday, shopping list reminder, what ingredients you need to make a delicious homemade lasagna. It's almost limitless!
The Solent Spectacles Verdict
With pricing starting from £379, including prescription single vision lenses - it's a no brainer to try us. The Ray-Ban Meta is no longer a toy; it’s a legitimate piece of eyewear. However, to make them work as prescription glasses, you need a specialist.
Ray-Ban’s own prescription options can be limited and pricey. That’s where we come in. Bring your prescription to our shop in Totton, Southampton and purchase Meta's from experts in the optical field. We can fit them with thinner, lighter lenses and premium anti-glare coatings - often at a much better price point than the high street optician or Ray-Ban themselves.
You want to use Ray-Ban's own lenses? We are often much cheaper for official Ray-Ban prescription lenses than any other supplier, including Ray-Ban themselves.
Are they the future?
For the tech-savvy wearer who wants to stay connected without a phone in their hand, absolutely. If you want to capture the moment instantly, never miss a loved-ones call or livestream your life on Facebook or Instagram, these are the ones for you.
If you live in Totton, Southampton, or the New Forest area, come in and have a chat with us about Meta glasses and what they could do for you.
